Vyapar vs 21bill — Honest Comparison for Small Businesses in 2026
A plain-English comparison of Vyapar and 21bill for Indian SMBs. Where each tool wins, where each falls short, and which one you should pick for your business.
If you’re Googling “Vyapar alternative”, you’ve probably used Vyapar for a few months and hit one of three walls: the desktop app got sluggish, your bill data lives on one machine that you can’t access from home, or you’ve outgrown the free tier and the paid plan at ₹899/year feels like it’s missing features a ₹99/month tool should have.
Disclosure first — this is on the 21bill blog. I’ve tried to keep the comparison honest: I’ll tell you where Vyapar still wins, where 21bill wins, and when you shouldn’t switch. If you finish reading and decide Vyapar fits you better, that’s a fine outcome.
The 60-second summary

Where Vyapar wins
1. Mobile-first workflow. Vyapar has 10+ million Play Store installs for a reason. If you’re standing at a counter billing customers on a phone all day, Vyapar’s Android app is purpose-built for that. You can create an invoice, print to a Bluetooth receipt printer, take payment, all without looking at a screen for more than 10 seconds. 21bill’s web app runs on any browser — including on your phone — but we don’t have a native app yet. If you’re phone-first, Vyapar is the right call today.
2. Regional languages. Vyapar ships with Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Bengali, Punjabi, Malayalam, and more. 21bill is English-only at launch (Hindi in Q3 2026). If your cashier reads only Gujarati, this is a dealbreaker.
3. Brand trust for first-time buyers. Vyapar has been around since 2018, has tens of thousands of reviews, and YouTube is full of CA-creators walking through how to use it. 21bill is newer with less social proof. If you’re the kind of buyer who needs third-party validation before committing, Vyapar has more of it.
4. Offline-first. Vyapar’s desktop app works when your internet is out. Our PWA caches pages but the invoice database still needs to sync with our servers. If you’re in an area with patchy connectivity, this matters.
Where 21bill wins
1. Price at the paid tier. Vyapar’s free plan is genuinely limited — single device, single user, no multi-branch. To get what most businesses actually need (sync across phone + laptop + cashier, 2+ users, real GST reports), you’re on ₹899/year per device. 21bill’s ₹99/month Starter includes cloud sync, GSTR-1 + GSTR-3B JSON download, and the full invoicing feature set. No per-device licences.
2. Works on any device without installing. Your phone broke? Log in from your laptop in 30 seconds. Sitting with your CA at their office? They can open your books without installing anything. Your data isn’t tied to one laptop that might die tomorrow — it’s on secure cloud servers with daily backups and an audit trail. Vyapar’s desktop-first model makes “which laptop is your data on” a real question for multi-device households.
3. One-click GSTR-1 + GSTR-3B JSON at ₹99/month. Vyapar’s GSTR JSON export is locked to their paid tier. 21bill gives you the exact JSON the government portal accepts at the ₹99 entry price — not as an add-on. How GSTR filing actually works on gst.gov.in is a separate post but the short version: you upload this file, pay the challan, done. No CA chase for routine months.
4. Purchases + input tax credit, done properly. A lot of billing tools at the ₹99-tier skip purchase tracking — they’re sales-focused because that’s the obvious feature to market. But without bills-in, you can’t compute GSTR-3B correctly, which means you’re still paying your CA to type bills into Tally at month-end. 21bill records vendor bills with full CGST/SGST/IGST split, feeds ITC into your monthly filing automatically.
5. Multi-user from ₹299/month. Our Business tier at ₹299/month gets you 5 users with role-based access — your cashier can only create invoices (can’t see purchase costs or margins), your salesperson sees customers but not financial totals, you see everything. Vyapar’s multi-user story is clunky; it wasn’t built for it from day one.
6. Modern, clean UI. I’ll just say it: Vyapar’s interface hasn’t aged well. It was built in 2018 and it looks it. 21bill’s design is something you’d show your CA without apologising.
Which should you actually pick?
Pick Vyapar if:
- You’re a single-shop owner who bills from a phone all day. A native Android app matters more than cloud sync.
- You need a regional language (Tamil / Telugu / Marathi / Gujarati / Kannada / Bengali / Punjabi / Malayalam). We don’t ship those yet.
- Your internet is unreliable and you need offline-first billing.
- You’re fine with Vyapar’s paid tier at ₹899/year per device if you have more than one device.
Pick 21bill if:
- You need to access your books from more than one place — phone, laptop, your CA’s office, your home computer.
- You want GSTR JSON download at the starter price, not as a paid add-on.
- You’re a small team — cashier + salesperson + owner — and want proper role-based access.
- You track purchases + ITC and want that to flow into monthly GSTR-3B automatically.
- You’d rather pay ₹1,188/year for cloud + filing JSON + multi-device than ₹899/year per device.
- You care that your billing tool looks modern when you hand your phone to a customer.
The honest bottom line
If you have one phone, one shop, one language, and spotty internet — Vyapar is probably still the right tool in 2026. Their app is mature and the counter workflow is polished.
If you have multiple devices, want cloud access, a clean UI, and don’t want to pay extra for GSTR JSON download — 21bill is the upgrade path. We’re newer and we don’t have a native mobile app yet, but the web app is fast, works on any phone’s browser, and the pricing doesn’t charge per device.
Switching costs are real. If you’ve got 2 years of Vyapar data, extracting it into 21bill (or anywhere else) is a pain — we import CSV + Excel but it’s not one-click. Most businesses wait for a natural break (new financial year, new company, or when Vyapar’s desktop app gets too slow) before switching.
If that break is now, 21bill is invite-only — request access to evaluate it. If your March filing data imports cleanly and your bills look right, you’re good. If not, keep using Vyapar and we’ll keep iterating.
