myBillBook vs 21bill — Which ₹99 Billing Tool Actually Delivers More?

Both cost the same. Both claim to be simple. A side-by-side breakdown of what each tool does, where they differ, and which one gets closer to replacing your CA's data-entry work.

myBillBook and 21bill both start at ₹99/month, both target Indian SMBs, and both promise “simple GST billing.” So which one actually delivers more at that price point?

I’ll say up front: this is on the 21bill blog. If you’re cross-shopping, read this and their comparison of us (if they ever write one). I’ve tried to be fair about where myBillBook has a real advantage.

Where myBillBook wins

1. Native Android app with 5M+ installs. Most of myBillBook’s user base bills from a phone, and their app is genuinely polished for counter-side workflows. You can tap out an invoice, hand the phone to the customer to review, share via WhatsApp, and take UPI payment — all in one flow without leaving the app. 21bill runs in any phone browser (including as a PWA you can install to your home screen), but until our native app ships, myBillBook has the ergonomic edge on phone-only setups.

2. Marketing + awareness. myBillBook spent significant money on YouTube and Facebook ads through 2024-25. If you asked ten Indian shopkeepers today which billing app they recognise, myBillBook would probably be in the top three answers along with Vyapar and Tally. That brand recognition makes onboarding family/employees slightly easier.

3. Offline invoice creation on their app. If your internet drops mid-bill, the app queues the invoice and syncs it later. 21bill’s PWA has partial offline support for viewing previously loaded data, but full-offline invoice creation is on our roadmap, not shipped.

4. 500 invoices/year on Starter vs our 50/month. 500/year works out to ~40/month on average but lets you spike higher in peak months (Diwali season, financial year-end) without upgrading. Our 50/month is a hard monthly ceiling. If your business is seasonal, this is a point in myBillBook’s favour. (Honest trade-off: we chose a strict monthly cap because it’s easier to reason about at scale; adjusting this is on our list if users ask.)

Where 21bill wins

1. GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B JSON in the ₹99 tier. This is the biggest single differentiator. myBillBook does not give you the actual JSON the GST portal accepts — even on their paid plans, they direct you to their own offline utility or push you to pay extra for GSTR-1 filing through their partners. 21bill gives you the exact GSTN V4.0 JSON as a one-click download at ₹99/month. You upload it on gst.gov.in yourself. Here’s the full step-by-step. For a business doing its own filing (or wanting its CA to spend 5 minutes uploading instead of 5 hours in Tally), this saves real money.

2. Purchase tracking + ITC, included. myBillBook makes you pay for their Purchase/Expense add-on — we haven’t seen a specific SKU price publicly, but it’s on top of the base plan. 21bill includes vendor bill tracking, CGST/SGST/IGST on each bill, and automatic ITC computation in the ₹99 tier. Without purchase tracking, your month-end GST number is incomplete — you still owe your CA for data entry.

3. True multi-user at ₹299/month. Our Business tier gives you 5 users with proper role-based access:

  • Admin sees everything (you)
  • Billing can create invoices + bills but can’t see customer LTV or change settings
  • Sales can create quotations + see customers but can’t touch financial totals
  • Viewer read-only (useful for your CA at month-end)

myBillBook has multi-user on paid Pro but with shallower role separation. If you have a cashier + a salesperson + yourself, 21bill’s access model matches how real SMBs operate.

4. Audit trail. Every GSTR-1 / GSTR-3B download is logged with the file’s SHA-256 hash. If there’s ever a dispute about what you filed — from the GST department, from your CA, from a business partner — we can show you the exact bytes we served you on that date. myBillBook has no equivalent feature.

5. Clean browser-first experience. No app download, no store review, no app updates that brick on old phones. You log in on whatever device is in front of you — your phone, a customer’s laptop at your office, your own laptop at home — and everything’s there. Your data isn’t hostage to one device that could break tomorrow.

6. Modern pricing without hidden gotchas. myBillBook’s pricing page is deliberately designed to push you into “Talk to sales” for anything beyond the starter plan. Our three tiers (₹99 / ₹299 / ₹599) are fully published, no per-invoice fees, no per-user add-ons, no PDF-download credits. What you see is what you pay.

The honest verdict

Pick myBillBook if:

  • You bill from a phone 100% of the time and need the polished native app experience.
  • You’re seasonal and need invoice capacity to spike during Diwali / March financial year-end.
  • Your internet is unreliable and you need strong offline invoice creation.

Pick 21bill if:

  • You want GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B JSON in the starter plan (not a paid add-on).
  • You track vendor bills and want ITC to flow into your monthly GST automatically.
  • You’re multi-device — want to access your books from phone, laptop, your CA’s office.
  • You have 2-5 employees and want clean role-based access at ₹299/month.
  • You care about the audit trail — knowing exactly what was filed, when, by whom.
  • You prefer your billing tool to look like 2026, not 2019.

The part I can’t sugar-coat

myBillBook has a native app that works offline. We don’t, yet. That’s genuinely a problem for a segment of users — the pure counter-billing, offline-first small retailer. If that’s you and you’ve been using myBillBook successfully, there’s no obvious reason to switch just for our filing JSON advantage.

But if you’re already bouncing between a laptop and a phone, if your CA charges you ₹3,000/month to file returns they could be uploading in 5 minutes, if you want a cleaner back-office than myBillBook’s app offers — the ₹99 plan at 21bill gives you more for the same money.

The best test: 21bill is now an invite-only platform — request access and evaluate it alongside myBillBook for a month. Compare your March GSTR-3B: ours computes the net-payable automatically from invoices + bills; myBillBook makes you compute it in their UI or their partner’s tool. If our number matches your CA’s, you’ll know which one stays on your phone.
